New evaluations for teachers and administrators
Shen has developed a Powerpoint presentation and a question and answer document explaining New York’s Education Law §3012-c that requires an annual performance evaluation of all teachers and principals
Shenendehowa has developed its Basic Plan for Teacher evaluation and Basic Plan for Principal evaluation based regulations released by the NYS Education Department. Last year, the legislature passed a bill that mandates 60 percent of a teacher’s evaluation be based on subjective measures like a principal’s observations, a review of student work, or surveys of parents and students; 20 percent on local tests or other assessments; and 20 percent on state tests, potentially rising to 25 percent in subsequent years.
The evaluations will be conducted annually, and will be used for a number of things, from developing more effective professional development programs for teachers to decisions about promotion, retention and removal.
The District’s Health and Wellness committee is partnering with the YMCA to offer a voluntary fitness program for all Shen employees called ShenFit. Rebecca Carman and Elizabeth Mars are the contacts coordinating the initiative. This ten-week nutrition and exercise program can have a lasting positive impact on your life! The format has been customized for Shenendehowa faculty and staff to help you lose weight in a healthy manner so that you may be a positive role model for students and our community.
