The Memorial Garden located in the circle in front of High School East is being redesigned. Over the past several months, parents of Chris Stewart, Deanna Rivers, Luke Romano and Nick Cammarata, joined together with members from Nick’s Round Table, High School PTSA and administrators to develop a plan for the garden. 
The high school Spanish 12H (University in the High School Class) were asked to wear the t-shirts for their college acceptance choices.
In honor of Earth Day, the High School West Environment Club ran a book drive collecting over 1000 used books that will be donated to Saratoga CAPTAIN and the World Wide Book Fund to build libraries locally and across the world.
High School student, Drew Hanagan won the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers new logo contest.

Congratulations to the Shen FBLA club members who took home a total of nine awards from the 2013 State Leadership Conference in Rochester. Several members qualified for the National Conference in Anaheim this June. These awards display the quality of business education available to our Shen students. 
Recently the “World of Difference” club from the High School visited the 6th grade FACS classes for a service learning project. This high school club organized an educational presentation and activity for middle school students regarding the issues of prejudices and stereotypes.
Shen High School music students had the opportunity to work with Michele Von Haugg, Director of Clarinets for Conservation (C4C) and member, Katie Palmer. Through Clarinets for Conservation students in Moshi, Tanzania are taught about sustainability of invaluable resources as well as music education.

Students in the digital electronics class design a robot to cross a foam board. Their robot must count five randomly placed black tape lines and then turn around and cross again.

Two Shen High School students have been accepted to represent the Capital District Delegation for the 2013 Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute, Diego Hernandez and Nina Loy will be debating in a mock assembly session at the NYS Chamber at the State Capitol. This event takes place on March 23-25.
The International Club performed its fashion show during Respect Day this year. Come see the International Club Fashion Show and more cultural displays during Shensational on March 23 in High School West, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Shen's Robotic Team 20 competed in the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Regional Competition and placed second after qualification matches. [MORE]
Shen High School had two teams compete in the 2013 Science Bowl Regionals sponsored by The U.S. Department of Energy and General Electric. The team of Joshua Elacqua, Liangyu Tao, Harry Newman-Plotnick and Stefan Grzyboski placed 2nd out of 17 teams! Shen teacher Mike Tymeson is the team advisor.
The Shen High School History Bowl Team (Sarah Yang, Olivia Acker, Dan Lemuire, Ashley Lieberman) advances to the National Competition in April in Washington, DC! In addition, Dan Lemire was a finalist in individual History Bee competition and has advanced to the National Championships. Our Shen teams are coached by Shen teacher Amber Quinn.

The Shen High School Musical Company presents Disney’s Beauty and The Beast on March 7th and 8th at 7:00pm and March 9th at 2:00pm and 7:00pm in the High School East Auditorium. Respect Club held their 2nd Annual Gaming for Charity event. $450 was raised for the Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers Memorial Scholarship Fund. Respect Club decided to match the funds, making the total $900 to be donated.
High School English teacher Joe Kott was selected as the Teacher of the Month for November. This is a joint effort with Peddler’s Bistro and the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and agent Robin Raciborski.

Shenendehowa High School student Eric Wu earned a perfect score on his AP Computer Science A Exam in spring 2012.
The High School Robotics Team, the Rocketeers, recently participated in a VEX Robotics Competition called “Savage Soccer”at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The team received the “Awesome Autonomous Award” for their ability to program the robot to quickly gather and deliver blocks automatically, without driver control. 
Last night, a devastating car accident took the lives of two beloved Shenendehowa High School students, seniors Christopher Stewart and Deanna Rivers and seriously injured junior Matthew Hardy and a Shaker student.
We will continue to monitor student reaction in the coming weeks and help students who may need more time to adjust to this tragedy.
Shenendehowa High School held a commemorative service event for retired teacher, administrator and U.S. Air Force veteran Howard Steggs, who died in March of this year. After the event journalism students interviewed local veterans about their experiences in the military and in various conflicts. The taped interviews will be donated to the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center in Saratoga as part of the New York State Oral History Program.
Shenendehowa Social Studies teachers, under the leadership of Alan Meisenholder, created a voter registration form based on the actual NYS voter registration form and had students register to vote in their homerooms. 
Early childhood education classes at High School East recently visited Shatekon Elementary School where they helped 3rd and 5th grade students work on a quilting community service project. 
High school students perform Act 1 of The Crucible during English class. Student names are Kayla Frasier, Emily Seidl, Claire Drake, Ryan Kelleher, and Kathryn Moore.
October was Anti-Bully Awareness Month and Respect Club started the STOMP out bullying movement at Shen. 
Shen High School Speech and Debate Team earned the 2011-2012 Leading Chapter Award in the New York State district from the National Forensic League. 
The high school Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club participated in The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk in Queensbury and raised $985 for the cause.
Shenendehowa High School science students are participating in an e-mail exchange with the North Pacific Expedition that is investigating the effects of plastic in the ocean ecosystem. 
Volunteer tutors in math courses, pre-calculus, earth science, chemistry and physics will be available in High School East on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Room 101.
