At the meeting on August 28, the board of education voted to put forth a $10,172,663 Capital Project referendum before voters on October 24, 2012. The project will have a minimal cost impact to taxpayers due to refinancing of existing debt, use of a capital reserve fund and state aid. The net impact on taxpayers is 0.03% (0.0003) over 15 years. This amounts to an extra $1.49 per year on a $250,000 home. The project will:

--provide comprehensive WiFi capacity in every building on campus, as well as physical education outdoor space.

--Reconstruct existing wrestling and weight room area to create multi-level physical fitness spaces.

Shenendehowa High School earned the designation of Blue Star School by W!SE for our students' performance on our 2011-2012 Financial Literacy Certification Test. A school must achieve a 75% passing rate on the test and have EITHER a majority of students on a given grade level take the test OR have the students who took it achieve an average score of 80% or higher. Last year, teacher Laura Tarlo piloted the W!SE Financial Literacy curriculum in the personal finance course and administered the financial literacy certification exam. Shen is the only school in upstate New York that earned this designation. Blue Star schools will be honored at the annual MoneyPower Conference for Financial Literacy on November 6th.
