For the Week of October 6th-10th

No School on Thursday

Social Studies-Your child was given a study guide for Government last week.  There will be a unit test on the information in the guide on Friday, Oct.10th.

We are continuing to review for the NYS Social Studies test. We reviewed the short answer questions for Part III (Nov. 06) Your child was assigned the essay to write at home and due on Friday Oct. 10th. They were give a sheet with the "Key Ideas from the Documents." Please encourage them to use the Historical Background information and the essay question to create an introduction.  They will need to site the documents as examples to support their introductory paragraph and they also need a conclusion.

Science-On Monday, Oct.6th there will be a quiz on what we have covered so far.

Math- We began Chapter 4 Adding and Subtracting Decimals. We will work on Problem Solving on Monday and Tuesday with a Chapter test on Wed. Oct.8th.

Language Arts-

-Selection Story- Due to the short week we will not be doing a selection story this week.

-Grammar Skill-  Compound Subjects and Predicates Quiz on Friday

-Spelling-  Pretest on Monday and challenge words are shared, Test on Friday. 

Writer's Workshop Celebration-  October 8th.There will be a small in class celebration for all our hard work. Students will finish their first personal narrative piece this week and be asked to take it home to be typed and due on Monday, Oct. 6th. You may help with the typing, but your child needs to be responsible for carefully editing before they share it with you. We have recorded in our Writers' notebooks...

"When to Use Paragraphs in Narrative Writing"  Please encourage your child to try to insert paragraphs were necessary.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

-Each child went home with a white form that showed the balance of the money owed for Camp Chingachgook. It  is due for Camp Chingachgook on Friday, October 10th. 

-PTA has sent home a fundraiser that is due on October 14th.  This year they are holding a frozen food fundraiser (cookie dough, Grandma's pies, pizza kits, etc.) instead of the traditional gift catalog.  The proceeds are used to fund the Arts in Education Programs.  These programs are excellent programs that benefit the entire Arongen community.

-New School Hours begin Wednesday, October 8th.  7:55-2:15.

-There is no school on Thursday, October 9th, in observance of Yom Kippur.
