Announcements:
STARTING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8th: All ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS will be starting 5 minutes later and ending 5 minutes later - Start: 7:55am & End: 2:15pm
NO SCHOOL THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9th - YOM KIPPUR
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8th - FIRE PREVENTION ASSEMBLY - students will receive information at a short assembly.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th - SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY! (Wear a crazy hat and/or an ARONGEN shirt to show school spirit.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th - 1st Reinforcer - COLLINS PARK - please review letter with your son/daughter and return MAS slip & permission slip by Wednesday.
Homework reminder: The students will have homework Monday through Thursday and sometimes on Friday. Please check their assignment notebook nightly to help get them organized. Remember to only remove things from the "Take Home" section of their portfolio.
REMINDERS:
1 . Fundraiser materials were delivered to school on Monday, September
29th. Notices were sent home last week regarding what your child owes
towards Camp Chingachgook. All money is due FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th.
2. Thank you to all parents that volunteered to chaperone for the Camp Chingachgook trip. I wish we could bring everyone! ADULT CHAPERONE MEETING: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16th at 7PM - Everyone CHAPERONING MUST ATTEND this meeting! If you can't attend, please send another adult in your place.
5. Band/Orchestra lessons: Please remind your child that is their responsibility to make up any work they miss while at a lesson. Please remind your child to bring their instrument to school on the day they are scheduled for a lesson.
Language Arts: Theme 1 - "Look Inside", Week 5
Spelling - Words with /s/, /z/, and /sh/. Pretest on Monday, Final test on Friday
English - Compound Subjects and Predicates. Quiz on Friday.
Reading - We will listen to the story, "Elena" in our Trophy textbooks on Wednesday and have a Selection Test that day. The students should read the story on Tuesday night as a preview and study the vocabulary words in their reading journal.
Writing - We will continue with our Writer's Workshop this week by discussing what Writer's Workshop will look and sound like. We will add different writing pieces in our Writer's Notebook throughout the week.
Math - We will try to have a Chapter 4 test on Wednesday, October 8th. Chapter 5 will begin on Tuesday.
Science - We will have a quiz on the first 5 lessons in our Measurement packet - Monday, October 6. Our next unit of study will be customary length and metric length.
Social Studies - We reviewed Part 3 (documents) of the November '06 DBQ last Friday. Today, we discussed the format of the essay and took notes. There was a hand out given with "Key Ideas" from the documents to help them write their essay. They will need to site the documents throughout the essay. The essay is due Friday, October 10th. Thank you for reviewing/helping your son/daughter with the DBQ.
This week we will review for our Government test on Tuesday and have the test on Friday, October 10th. The format for this test will not consist of essays. We've explained to the students, that the first test will only have some multiple choice and vocabulary. For the most part, all other tests will have MC, matching, short answer, and essay/extended response questions.
