What's Happening History...

OKTE students, Kevin Parker and Nicholas Ranucci, wanted to honor 2 classmates who were recently hospitalized in Albany Medical Center's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.  They decided to organize a book drive and donated over 1,000 books to the PICU.  Each book was labeled with their classmates names. For more information, check out http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2008/mar/05/0305_books/.

Okte's Community Service Club spent time in December sponsoring a food drive that benefited the Jonesville Food Pantry.  In addition, they made Holiday cards that were given to Schuylar Ridge Nursing Home Residents.  The club's advisors are Miss Butera and Miss Rock.

OKTE 5th graders lead by teachers, Mrs. Moran, Ms. Fahey, Miss Popek and Mrs. Weller made gift baskets for people in need during the Holiday Season.   The students made as well as collected donations.

The Fourth Grade classes at Karigon showed Compassion when they chose not to give classmates or teachers gifts but donated $1,026.29 to a needy family in our area.  The gifts were delivered to Captain on December 12, 2007.  Way to go fourth graders!  This is an all-time high!

Secretary Gina Martin and Nurse Dee Hughes add their signatures.

Shatekon Teachers, staff and students will demonstrate CITIZENSHIP this month by signing their community quilt.  Everyone who is part of Shatekon for their opening year will now be part of Shatekon's history.

Karigon kicked off this year's quilt project by inviting 4 HS classes of Child Developement and Pyschology to help students draw pictures for quilt squares.  Last year's quilts went to 105 deserving students in Southern Saratoga County, including HOSPICE WaveRider clients, Domestic Violence shelters and Shen Students

This month's "Word of the Month" Citizenship will be emphasized every morning during Karigon's morning announcements in November.  Mrs. Diane Stein helps students find "kid friendly" examples that relate to students, family and the community.
