Congratulations to the Class of 2008. At 729 graduates, the class of 2008
is the largest graduating class ever in Shenendehowa's 55 years of graduation!
Click here for the list of graduates. Although urban
legend has people talking about graduating class sizes of 800, the truth of the
matter is, according to district official records, there has not been a
graduating class to surpass 700 until now.

Acadia 6th graders
raised $3,033.96 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through a
Math-a-Thon. The Math-a-Thon program is an educationally-based fund-raising
program in which students get sponsors for the number of math problems completed
in special workbooks.
 |
We are very proud of our
students for working so hard on the Math-a-Thon, said Acadia Teacher Leanne
Haluska. With their help, St. Jude Hospital will be able to create new
treatments that may one day lead to a cure for many forms of cancer. I also
want to thank the community for supporting our students. It takes all of us
to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer.
Pictured are the top students who brought in the most money for Team 6-1:

This June,
Shenendehowa High School social studies teacher, Troy Bajardi , will travel to
South Korea as a participant in the Korean Studies Workshop for American
Educators. He is one of 100 participants selected after a competitive
review process from nearly 400 applications nationwide. He will travel to Korea
on June 25 and stay until July 9. The Korean Studies Workshop for American
Educators is designed to enhance mutual understanding between the people of
Korea and the United States by inviting U.S. educators to visit Korea and to
share the knowledge gained in the classroom and community.
Teachers will
begin their visit in Seoul with a formal reception attended by representatives
from the Korea Foundation and officials from Yonsei University, who assisted the
Korea Foundation in coordinating the program. In the following days, the
American educators will attend lectures and visit relevant sites to learn about
Korean history, economics and culture. The educators will also have the
opportunity to meet students and teachers at Goyang Foreign Language High
School, where they will learn about the Korean educational system. In addition
to their time in Seoul, they will also travel to Gyeongju, the historical
capital of Korea, where they will learn more about Korean history and culture.
The trip will also include a visit to the Demilitarized Zone between North and
South Korea as well as several ancient Buddhist Temples.
The Korea
Foundation, working in conjunction with Yonsei University, oversees all aspects
of the workshop for educators. The Foundation, an independent organization
affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sponsors the program,
for which 2008 marks the third year. The Institute of International Education
coordinates the recruitment and pre-departure activities of the program in the
United States.
Nearly 200
social studies educators from across the United States have visited Korea
through the Korean Studies Workshop for American Educators in 2006 and 2007.
Program participants have already begun to share what they have learned about
Korea with their students and communities through a variety of outreach
projects.
"I am honored
to represent the Shenendehowa Community, the State of New York and the United
States on this amazing journey," said Bajardi. |
