Mr. Casey called the meeting of the Board of Education to order at 6:00 p.m.

 

MOTION BY Mrs. Wiggins, seconded by Mrs. Grey, to move into Executive Session.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.

 

MOTION BY Mrs. Wiggins, seconded by Mrs. Bowles, to convene to the Study Session at 6:50 p.m.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.

 

Mr. Casey called the Study Session of the Board of Education to order at 7 p.m.

 

Mr. Casey led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Announcements

 

Mr. Casey pointed out the exits from the meeting room. 

 

Mr. Casey announced that an Executive Session was held prior to the Study Session.

 

1.   ADOPT AN AGENDA

 

MOTION BY Mr. DiLallo seconded by Mrs. Mrs. Wiggins, that the agenda be approved as presented.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.

 

2.   SUPERINTENDENT’S COMMUNICATION

 

  1. GHI Team Presentation

 

Mr. Paul Ripchik reported on the GHI Workforce Team Challenge held on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 6:25 p.m., at the Empire State Plaza.  Shenendehowa Central Schools sent a team of 173 participants.  The female team of Rose Velan, Vanessa Alderman, Holli Mulholland, and Kathy Watrobski finished in 3rd place competing against 231 teams.  In the individual race with approximately 4000 participants, Rose Velan finished in 5th place overall with Vanessa Alderman coming in 7th.

 

b.   Communications Award

 

Shenendehowa’s Grapevine Blog won the 2008 National School Public Relations Association Golden Achievement Award.  The award is for outstanding achievement in the four steps of a public relations program:  1) analysis of the need; 2) planning to meet the need; 3) execution and communication of the program; and 4) formal evaluation.  Shenendehowa is one of a select group of winners from entries across the country.

4.   ACTION ITEMS

 

a.   Certification of School Budget Vote/Bus Proposition

 

MOTION BY Mrs. Grey, seconded by Mrs. Wiggins, that the Board of Education certify the results of the Annual Budget Vote held on May 20, 2008.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.

 

b.   2008-2009 School Year Calendar Approval

 

MOTION BY Mrs. Wiggins, seconded by Mrs. Bowles, that the Board of Education approve the 2008-2009 School Year Calendar.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.

 

 

 

 

 

c.   Policies and Related Repeals for Second Reading – Policy 5710 (Transportation), Policy 7614 (Students With Disabilities), Policy 8440 (Instructional Arrangements)

 

MOTION BY Mrs. Grey, seconded by Mrs. Bowles, that the Board of Education approve the above mentioned policies.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.

 

5.   ADJOURNMENT

 

MOTION BY Mrs. Wiggins, seconded by Mr. DiLallo, to adjourn the meeting at 8:29 p.m.

 

Unanimously approved, motion carried.
