Emergency
SCHOOL CLOSINGS and DELAYS

School Closings/Delays...

Announcements regarding the closing or delaying of school are called into radio and television stations as early as possible by the transportation department and posted on the website by the public information officer..

Parents and staff can also access up-to-date information by calling the Times Union Sourceline at 446-4000, access code 9191.

On days school is delayed, each school has developed a plan to accommodate any student who is dropped off by parents at the normal time. This plan is reviewed annually.

Early Dismissal...

Announcements regarding early dismissal will be made to staff, radio and television stations and the sourceline as early as possible, preferably before noon.

After School/Evening Activities...

If school is closed, it does not mean that after school and evening events are automatically canceled.

Information will be collected throughout the morning and a decision will be made between noon and 2 p.m. depending on weather, road, parking lot and sidewalk conditions. The decision will be announced immediately to staff, radio and TV stations and posted on the website (www.shenet.org) and the Sourceline.

It is important for building principals and other staff to communicate with director of finance, or director of facilities, about possible problems and concerns regarding scheduled events. Dave Christopher, the director of transportation, should also be contacted if after school busing is required.

Snow removal efforts will be aimed at making facilities available for school related activities including sports, student attended activities and continuing education. Extra staff will be used for cleanup if possible and practical (see Use of Facilities Handbook).

If school is dismissed early, it is assumed that weather or other emergency conditions are such that all after school and evening activities must be canceled. This information will also be included in any announcements.

Weekend Closings...

If it appears that weather conditions may jeopardize weekend activities, every attempt will be made to evaluate and communicate decisions on Friday between noon and 2 p.m.

It is important for building principals and other staff to communicate with the director of finance, director of facilities, or director of transportation about possible problems and concerns regarding scheduled events. Depending on the activity, it may be necessary to continue this communication throughout the weekend. Extra staff will be used for cleanup if possible and practical for school sponsored activities (see Use of Facilities Handbook).

Announcements regarding the status of planned weekend activities are called into radio and television stations and the Sourceline as soon as possible.

Y-Care...

On days when school is delayed in the morning, ALL MORNING Y-TIME (Chango and Okte) WILL BE CANCELED.

In the event school is dismissed early, Y-TIME WILL BE CANCELED AT ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS (including St. George). If necessary, parents should arrange for alternate care and inform their child what to do in case their child arrives home before they do.

When school is closed, Y-CARE WILL PROVIDE A SNOW-DAY PROGRAM at the Southern Saratoga YMCA branch in Clifton Park. The hours are 7:30am-6pm. All children must be pre-registered for snow day programs.
