Author Peter Lourie visited Karigon.  He writes books for children as well as adults about his various travels throughout the world.  His books for youngest readers include Amazon, Hudson River, Yukon River and others.  While here at Karigon, Mr. Lourie did a whole group presentation for grades 3-5 on his Hudson River adventure from Tear of the Clouds to Manhattan by canoe.  Later in the day Mr. Lourie presented additional slides and information on writer's workshop in the fourth grade classrooms.  He signed books for the students and got all of us excited about being an explorer.  Here are some pictures of his visit.

Middle school boundary changes - As a result of the need to balance enrollments across the three middle schools students from the various elementary schools will be reassigned. The major changes are:
  • Skano, Shatekon and approximately half of Arongen 5th graders will go to Koda for sixth grade.
  • Chango, Karigon and Orenda 5th graders will go to Gowana for sixth grade.
  • Tesago, Okte and approximately half of Arongen 5th graders will go to Acadia for sixth grade.

Students currently in middle school will remain assigned to the same school until they move on to High School West for 9th grade.

Requests to attend the same school as a sibling should be sent to the superintendent's office. Students with specialized programs may be assigned to a different middle school for that particular program. Formal notifications will be mailed to parents next week.

Parents of Karigon Students,

As you may be aware, our Karigon Partnership Team is working on 3 main goal areas one of which is to “Improve Communication to Parents”.  We have created a means by which you can share your knowledge or expertise in the classroom.

Community Resources Survey

We invite you to become a partner in our HOME-SCHOOL CURRICULUM CONNECTION by completing an on-line survey. The information collected will be used to develop a COMMUNITY RESOURCES database to be shared with our teachers.  We would like to strengthen our social network and curriculum by finding local family, business and community members who can assist in our educational programs. If you are interested or you know of someone who would be able to assist and have a hobby or expertise in a particular area, please fill out this online survey
