Changing
Families: This is an in-school peer support program to help children
explore, express, and understand their feelings surrounding changes in their
family. These changes could be due to separation, divorce, death, or
remarriage of a parent. The groups meet by grade level once a
week for lunch. Changing Families is a half year program.
Adoption
Group: This is an in-school peer support program designed for children who
were adopted. The group meets once a week and combines students at
different grade levels.
Individual Counseling:
I meet with many students individually for a variety of reasons.
Individual meetings can be initiated by parents, teachers or students.
Counseling services may be developmental, psycho-educational, skill-based,
problem-centered, or crisis oriented.
Classroom Guidance Lessons:
I go in to many classrooms to present lessons based on three major developmental
areas: academic development, career development, and personal/social
development. If you take a look at each grade level page the lessons are
posted for viewing. These lessons fulfill the New York State Education
Department mandate for character education and the requirements of the ASCA
National Standards for School Counseling Programs.
Friendship Groups for Girls: This program is offered to all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls. The pre-teen years are the years when girls often begin to experience friendship problems. These groups are designed to help girls learn how to deal with social problems. Friendship groups meet once a week for lunch for four weeks. Activities include reading, games, craft projects, and discussion. Parent permission is not required.
Friendship Groups for Boys:
This program is offered to all 3rd and 4th grade boys. This group explores
social problems with boys and how to deal with them. Friendship groups
meet once a week for lunch for four weeks. There is a discussion while
students eat followed by an activity or game that goes along with the
discussion. Parent permission is not required.
Buddy Program: This is a staff mentoring program that services students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Students participate in this program for 2 years and graduate at the end of the second year. Buddy Program has a planned activity once a month after school.
