Homework

Homework is an important part of second grade.  It helps the kids develop good  time management and organizational habits.  There will be homework each night, Monday through Thursday.  I do not give homework on the weekend.  The assignment is basically the same each night.

Reading - 15 minutes - take notes and fill out WEB calendar

Math - worksheet

Spelling - Practice sentences for 5 minutes.  Test on Friday.

It is great for the kids to snuggle up with an adult to read.  However, with our busy schedules, that isn't always possible.  Try having your child read out loud when you are making dinner or folding the laundry.  When reading, the kids should always have something to write with and something to write on.  They may use sticky notes, little notebooks or their big notebooks.  What they write may depend on what unit of study we are doing.

Try to follow a routine for doing homework.  Be sure to include packing the backpack with all materials as part of the routine.

Just remember, the kids will follow your lead.  If you place a high importance on homework, so will they!
