A. It is nearly impossible to split a school district. To our knowledge it has never been done in New York State. In fact, the state provides incentives for district’s to merge because it brings costs down. From what we know, the State Education Department and the legislature would have to be involved. Then all of the towns in the district would have separate votes and each would have to unanimously agree to it. Then there are so may questions…perhaps the biggest would be how assets (land, buildings, equipment, staffing, etc.) would be divided among the six towns.
