Over the summer and moving forward, the NYS Police and Saratoga County Sheriff’s will be visiting schools/buildings. The purpose of these routine visits is to become familiar with our buildings, staff and protocols so they are better equipped to handle an emergency if one arises.
It is important that we continue to take a proactive approach when it comes to school safety. Familiarity with the schools is extremely important as it will help alleviate confusion during response efforts in an emergency situation and also help build a positive image between law enforcement officials, students and staff.
The State Police Troopers will be in uniform, and in the case of Investigators (Bureau of Criminal Investigation), they may be in plain clothes. In all instances they will show proper ID. With that said, when the BCI staff (plain clothes) plans to visit the schools, the State Police will be contacting Director of Policy and Community Development, Rebecca Carman’s office so she can properly inform the appropriate building administrator so school staff is prepared.
