Summer Learning and Program Opportunities 

Summer is a great time to continue learning.  Playing games, reading books, learning new vocabulary, math problems of the day… all can contribute to language development, comprehension, and analytical skills. Visit our Shen Summer Learning Webpage to access these resources.

Gr. K-5 Summer Literacy Support Program & English as New Language (ENL) 

Summer Literacy Support Program –  The Shenendehowa Summer Literacy Support Program is an academic based four-week summer program focused on English language arts and math skills.  The program is designed to help students maintain and further develop writing, reading and math skills over the summer. 

Dates:  July 8, 2024 (Monday) – August 1, 2024 (Thursday)

Days: Monday thru Thursday

Times:  9:00 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.

Location: Karigon/Orenda Elementary School

Gr. 6-12 Summer School & English as a New Language (ENL)

Summer School – The Shenendehowa Summer School Program provides students in grades 6-12 an opportunity to take courses for credit recovery, skill building, and acceleration (Hybrid Health). The ENL program extends into the summer to provide a continuous opportunity for students to build essential skills. The program will be held in-person at High School West, July 8- August 20, Mondays – Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.

A mid-session vacation break is scheduled from July 26 (Fri.) – August 4 (Sun.) – (HVCC Pre-Calculus will meet during this week.)

Registration
Registration for courses will be completed online by Middle School and High School Counselors and/or the Summer School Office.

Shenendehowa residents who are currently registered with the district to attend private schools may register for Summer School credit recovery classes by calling 518.881.0340, ext. 61480 after June 28. Documentation for summer school eligibility will need to be provided by the private school administration.

Chromebooks
Students are expected to bring their charged Chromebooks to Summer School daily. Assistance will be provided to resolve problems that occur with devices.

Transportation
Transportation to Summer School is offered at the beginning of each day (arrival time at HS West approx. 7:30 a.m.) and at the end of each school day (approximate departure time from HS West is 12:15 p.m.). Buses will stop at various street locations, similar to those used for Late Bus transportation. Buses WILL NOT stop at individual homes. Parents/guardians may also provide their own transportation to and from Summer School. During the registration process, parents/guardians will indicate if their child will use school transportation.

Meals
Breakfast and lunch will be offered in the 2024 Summer School program. A la carte items (bottled water, juice drinks, snacks) are also available.

The Bountiful Backpack program is available to eligible students during the summer session. Students who

EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR (ESY)/SPECIAL EDUCATION Summer Program

Dates: July 8, 2024 (Tuesday) – August 16, 2024 (Friday)

Days: Monday thru Friday

Times:

  • Tesago Full-Day:  8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 
  • Half-Day: 8 am to 10:30 am
  • CP Mall (Community Skills Development): 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT CAMPS

Shen Summer Adventures – The Shenendehowa Central School District, in conjunction with the Community Education Department, is pleased to sponsor our Summer Enrichment Program for students entering grades 1-12. Some camps are half-day camps while others are full day camps. Most camp directors and staff members are current Shenendehowa employees. All camps will be located primarily on the Shenendehowa campus.
