A. Getting 10,000 students and their backpacks through metal detectors each morning is simply not feasible. How would we protect the students waiting in line to go through the metal detector? Plus, according to law enforcement, it only provides a false sense of security. Using metal detectors only works if you were to operate schools like a prison…no one in or out. No recess. No outdoor physical education. What about when students are getting off the bus or in the parking lots. As we do after any tragedy like this occurs, our District Emergency Response Team will review safety protocols and look to see what we can learn from this incident.
