Mrs. Shutts and Mrs. Leuzinger’s ISD classes had a great time exploring the Vischer Ferry Fire Department truck during their visit to Okte. Firefighters from Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Jonesville, Vischer Ferry, and West Crescent Volunteer Fire Companies came to Okte during National Fire Prevention Week and taught important lessons on fire prevention and safety!

The SEED Coalition worked with Fatima, an expert, on getting a Tower Garden up and running here at the High School. “Daisy” lives in HS East, where she will serve as an instructional resource for Environmental Science and AP Environmental Science. She will be managed through the SEED Coalition and student clubs, like Science Honor Society, Garden Club, and Environmental Club. Bounty from this program will be used to provide fresh vegetables in our own cafeteria.

Mr. Symond’s classes observed Mr. Verhagen’s construction classes and got to tour the new home the class is building. From here, Mr. Symond’s class will be constructing a scale model house just like the one at the High School. The students are having a blast!

Mrs. Trotta’s first graders have been learning about Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month in music class. We learned that Hispanic Heritage month is a time dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments and traditions of those from a Spanish speaking culture. To celebrate the musical traditions of Hispanic cultures, Mrs. Trotta’s class learned and performed a traditional Mexican folk dance to the song “La Raspa.”

53 Okte students tracked their reading in summer 2024 and read over 1000 minutes. These students were recognized at a school-wide assembly.
